Frequently asked questions
When is trash and recycling collected?
Residential trash is collected weekly and recycling is collected every other week. Check your service address with Public Works for your exact route day.
How do I apply for a building permit?
Building, remodel, and business permits are handled by Planning & Development. Applications can be submitted in person at Town Hall or by contacting the department directly.
How can I get involved in local decisions?
Town Council meetings are open to the public and include a public comment period. Meeting dates are posted on the News & Updates page, along with notice of Planning Commission sessions.
Who do I contact about a water or sewer issue?
Utility Billing and Public Works share responsibility for water and wastewater service. For active leaks or emergencies, call the Public Works line directly.
Is Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area part of the town?
The conservation area is managed by the federal Bureau of Land Management, but the town partners closely with the BLM on trail access, the Gateway Visitor Center project, and shared events.
How do I report a pothole or broken streetlight?
Use the Report an Issue link on the homepage or contact Public Works with the location and a brief description. Most requests are addressed within 5–7 business days.
What is Sloan Schloop?
Sloan Schloop is the town's famous local dish — a thick, smoky green chile and hominy stew with roots in the old railroad quarry crews. You'll find it at diners along Main Street, and it takes center stage every year at the Sloan Days cook-off. See the About page for the full story.
